Trudie Swanepoel details moment groom phoned her to cancel on their wedding day
"I'm not coming. Let's call the whole thing off." These were the words Trudie Swanepoel received on her special day from her husband-to-be after 10 years of being together.
Everything was ready - the picture-perfect day Trudie Swanepoel imagined was about to take place.
On 5 October 2019, on a farm in the lush Overberg mountains outside Swellendam in the Western Cape, Swanepoel was all dressed up and ready to get married to the love of her life.

Sadly, things did not turn out as Swanepoel had imagined.
Just before the wedding started, Swanepoel called her groom-to-be - and she received a message that broke her heart into pieces.
"I am not coming. Let's call the whole thing off."
In the blink of an eye, her dream wedding and future collapsed. Swanepoel was devastated when she heard those words coming from him.
Swanepoel managed to face her biggest fear at that moment - to give the news to her family and friends that the wedding was off.
She climbed onto a chair in front of her guests and said: "There won't be a wedding. You can gossip about it tomorrow but for now, we're still going to party!"
Trudie Swanepoel joined the Scenic Drive to share more about the day.
"In 10 years there were no signs that he will leave. The night before the wedding he sent me a message to say he can't wait."
