Why is it important to talk about sex? Couples weigh in on the conversation

There are certain things people don't like to talk about. One of the things that most people don't want to talk about is sex. 

Sex is an intimate act, and we often feel very vulnerable and uneasy and find it difficult to talk about it.

Conversations about sex can bring up a lot of anxiety, which can then cause you to avoid having them altogether.

But why must we talk about sex? 

According to research, couples who have strong sexual communication are more satisfied with their sex lives. Open communication can lead to greater feelings of intimacy and a stronger relationship

Couples who listen to the Scenic Drive spoke about their sex lives and share reasons why it's important to talk about sex. 

One couple that was willing to openly speak about sex is Jako and Jediette Lombard. The couple has been married for eight years and has two children. 

"Afrikaans girls are normally stiffer," Jako mentioned.

Jako added that English girls are more sexually open-minded. 

"We watch porn together and I think it is more pleasurable watching it together," Jediette continued. 

The couple also told Rian van Heerden that they are considering swinging.

"We have been thinking about it to fully start swinging," Jediette said.

Jako also continued by saying that they use sex toys such as a strap-on. A strap-on is a two-piece sex toy that includes a dildo, which is a typically non-vibrating toy that is generally penis-shaped.

"I enjoy it when she uses the strap-on."

The couple said that they have sex twice a night and on Sunday they rest. "The kids are in a routine and after 19:00 they must be asleep. After that mom and dad can play," Jako continued.

Another couple spoke about their honest sex life. 

"We have sex about three to five times a week when we are together."

Carl and Reina mentioned that they have been dating for three months and they are honest about what they want when it comes to sex.

"We are still learning about each other and as we learn we want to explore more," Reina admitted.
