The knock that Hougaard still feels today
Updated | By Bronwyn Hardick

Former Springbok and Bulls flyhalf. Derick Hougaard was recently advised to undergo an MRI scan on his brain.
According to Netwerk24 he complained he was more forgetful than usual, as well as suffering from headaches and a specialist advised him to undergo a scan to determine what’s wrong.
“All the head injuries and knocks I took on the rugby field are now catching up with me,” said Hougaard.
One of the most brutal knocks he took was this one:
Derrick Hougaard gets knocked out with what is arguably one of the hardest hits you'll ever see on the rugby field from Samoan rugby from 'The Chiropractor' Brian Lima at the 2003 World Cup.
Luckily, it was all good news. Scans revealed that although minor damage was identified, the damage is not permanent and the condition was diagnosed soon enough to control with medication.
