A final kick as SA's Liefling bows out of rugby
Updated | By Bronwyn Hardick
Former Springbok and Bulls flyhalf Derick Hougaard was recently advised to undergo an MRI scan on his brain.
According to Netwerk24 he complained he was more forgetful than usual, as well as suffering from headaches and a specialist advised him to undergo a scan to determine what’s wrong.
“All the head injuries and knocks I took on the rugby field are now catching up with me,” said Hougaard.
Luckily, it was all good news. Scans revealed that although minor damage was identified, it’s is not permanent and the condition was diagnosed soon enough to control with medication.
However, with the diagnosis came a reality Hougaard did not see coming – he will never get to have the glory that comes with playing that final game before parting ways with the rugby field.
