A Game of 'Elocution': Tol Ass Mo vs. Rian
This morning was total fun! Tol Ass Mo joined us in studio and went head to head with Rian in a game of pronunciation. After all the struggles with certain words from some of our politicians and the recent Minister of Basic Education, we decided to put a few words to the test.
We have all that one word or a few words that we always seem to struggle with pronouncing. This morning we put a few words to the test in a game of 'Eloction'.
With President Jacob Zuma and some of our Ministers having made speeches lately where the pronunciation of certain words were far from correct, we decided that it would be a good time to see if Rian, who is always criticizing these figures, as well Tall Ass Mo, who uses these public figures in his jokes, could actually pronounce some difficult words the right way. This all sounds good, but how would we know if the words are pronounced correctly? Well we invited Margeaux Engelbrecht, the owner of Ithuteng Learning Support Centre to be our pronunciation judge as she specializes in Speech and Language therapy.
How would the game work you may ask? Well, Rian and Mo each had a few words to pronounce, the person with the most number of correct pronunciations wins.
Rian and Tall Ass Mo, went head to head and pronounced some difficult South African words in different languages. We then asked listeners to let us know which words in their home language people most struggled to pronounce properly.
