Kabelo Mabalane: I Ran For My Life

Kabelo Mabalane speaks about his career, being addicted to drugs to finally overcoming all obstacles. He is now the author of "I ran for my life".
Kabelo Mabalane, also known as “Bouga Luv”, is South Africa’s number one self-proclaimed “pantsula for life”.
He has released an autobiography in which he talks about his journey from being a multi-platinum selling music artist to having to deal with and overcome drug addiction, to finding hope and life in running and his faith. He has run 8 Comrade marathons to date.
Kabelo spoke about his early days from growing up in Soweto to meeting Zwai Bala and Tokollo Tshabalala at St. Stithians to form the group TKZee. The group arrived on the kwaito scene releasing singles "Take It Easy" and then "Phalafala" which became a national anthem for the December holidays that year.
"Shibobo" was yet again another single released in 1998, featuring Benni McCarthy. This was at the height of the soccer fever during the France World Cup, for which South Africa had qualified. The single was produced by Zwai and went on to become South Africa's fastest and biggest selling single ever reaching over 280,000 units.
In his book, “I Ran For My Life”, Kabelo talks about growing up between Soweto and living life in the suburbs to talking about his phenomenal music career which has seen him being awarded winning the SAMA awards ten times.
This musician, TV presenter, entrepreneur and athlete writes about how running saved his life. Kabelo also shares his thoughts and advice on staying in shape and being prepared for anything and how to build the spirit of endurance in everything you do.
In 2013 he was the host of the Mzansi Magic reality competition series Kabelo's Bootcamp, in which contestants compete against each other in varying physical and psychological challenges with the hope of losing the most weight and conquering their personal trials at the end.
Kabelo shared some of his running hints and tips including the music that he listens to when he is running, be it at the Comrades or just a jog around the blog.
