Lawyer, businessman, a politician who also participated in negotiating South Africa's transition into democracy, Mathews Phosa is a man of many faces and talents. On The Complimentary Breakfast, he shared his lyrical side by reading some of his poetry which surprised some.
Having moved back into South Africa from exile in Mozambique in 1990, Mathews Phosa returned sharing his experience through lyricism and poetry, which later translated into Deur Die Oog Van 'n Naald - an Afrikaans poetry anthology in 1999.
In the middle of that, he was part of the ANC's Codesa delegation that negotiated South Africa's transition into a democratic dispensation.
On The Complimentary Breakfast, Phosa recites "Wie Is Ek (in my geboorte land)" which translates into 'Who am I in the land of my birth?'
