POLL: Do you think South Africa is ready for a female president?
Updated | By Lee-Roy Wright
Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma's appearance at a church service jointly hosted by the Faith Ministry Church and the ANC Women’s League has once again brought her candidacy as president into the spotlight. Is she fit to run as the next president of South Africa?
Over the past few weeks there has been debate around the possibility of South Africa being run by their first female president. Many South Africans are undecided and many have shared their thoughts on the topic.
H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Clarice Dlamini Zuma is an undisputable trailblazer in the upliftment and empowerment of women across the African continent. She has been at the forefront as a struggle activist and politician.
In 2009, she was appointed Minister of Home Affairs and brought about radical change in the department, which subsequently achieved a clean audit for the first time in many years in 2011. She is the first woman to lead the continental organization, including its predecessor, the Organization of African Unity. Now, Dlamini Zuma is at the forefront of running for presidency.
We asked our listeners in our 5 Calls segment and many did not hesitate to comment. Angeline Schwan commented, "Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma is not right for the job. I think it is fair to say that there is so much nepotism in the government at the moment that it's become a disease. I think it's time for someone independent of the Zumas and all their "comrades" to charge and get rid of all the corruption and greed."
"If not Thuli Madonsela what about Helen Ziller? Look at what she done as mayor of Capetown and then the province?", said Michelle Johnson.
Malome Bright found the humour by commenting, "As for me i can't think of myself having my wife as president of the state. Whose gonna raise my kids in that 5 year term? How am I gonna cope those lonely nights when she's on "business trips" etc. So having a single lady lead the country for me I see as a yes. And to vote goes to the lady president."
