Rian investigates the M1 bridge collapse
Updated | By The Complimentary Breakfast
Rian Van Heerden speaks to the CEO of Murray and Roberts Construction, Henry Laas, about the M1 Grayston Drive temporary bridge collapse that took place on Wednesday, 14 October.
After the horrific collapse of the M1 temporary bridge at Grayston Drive, which left three people dead and 21 others injured, Rian felt that it was only right to speak to the people who were in charge of constructing the temporary bridge. He spoke to the CEO of Murray and Roberts Construction, Henry Laas, asking him who is to blame for the collapse and what the cause could've been.
The collapse of the bridge took place just a couple of days after Tshepo Letsipa, who regularly travels on the M1 tweeted "What ever it is they are building by the Grayston bridge...looks like a disaster waiting to happen".
Johannesburg Mayor Parks Tau on Wednesday evening announced that three people had died and 21 others were injured when a pedestrian bridge that was under construction collapsed.
Earlier, witnesses said the bridge near the Grayston off rump that leads to Sandton collapsed after strong winds hit the area. The bridge was being constructed by Murray & Roberts.
The scaffolding, debris and metal structures supporting the bridge fell onto cars driving along the M1. Some cars were trapped under the rubble.
Further investigations will be done by both Murray and Roberts Construction and the Department of Labour.
