Should the minimum wage of domestic workers be increased?
Updated | By Lee-Roy Wright
The Department of Labour has released updated minimum wage rates for the sector. The wage increase will affect those working more than a certain amount of hours per week.

It seems that you are going to have to fork out more for your domestic worker. The fee per hour has been increased to an amount of R1. 42 per hour. This applies to those working more than 27 hours per week.
Domestic workers working below the weekly hour amount, will earn more than R14.54 an hour in urban areas, and R13.53 in other areas. Depending on the municipality, employees working more than 27 ordinary hours a week must earn R2 422.54 or R2 205.17 a month.
