South African females are obese and happy
Updated | By Kriya Gangiah
Every South African function is normally centered around food, and we all love a good Sunday lunch, but how much does it effect your well-being?
A study carried out by the BioMed Central Journal last year reported that overweight and obese South Africans has risen to 85%, up from 65% four years previously.
The University of the Western Cape-Chronic Disease Initiative for Africa (CDIA) research team also put together a study highlighting the challenges to do with tackling obesity-related health threats. They found that overweight, middle-aged black women, unlike their normal weight and obese counterparts in the study, had no issues with their weight.

Not only were they content, but many indicated they wanted to pack on even more kilograms.
Kriya spoke to UWC School of Public Health's Professor Thandi Puoane about why obese South Africans are happy with their weight and how they look.
