Colourful Cape Carnival lights up streets
Updated | By Carla Mackenzie
Bright
colours, sequins, painted faces and high energy was the order of the day at the
Cape Town Parade on Tuesday.
Cape minstrels, also known as the Kaapse Klopse, paraded through the streets of the Cape Town CBD as part of the Tweede Nuwejaar celebrations.
The annual minstrel parade drew about 50 000 people who lined the streets on Tuesday, with some arriving as early as Monday evening to secure the best front row seat.
More than 13 000 minstrels from 60 different teams were dressed in brightly coloured costumes, played instruments and sang and dance to entertain the jovial crowds.
