Jason Derulo angers South Africans with his "Ya’ll speak English?" question
Updated | By Minenhle Khoza
Jason Derulo's visit to South African shores did not go as well as he hoped it would.
The "Cheyanne" hitmaker was the headline act during Sunday's ANN7 South African of the Year Awards, and he offended not just those in attendance, but a large majority of South Africans when he asked a section of the crowd if they could speak English.
Cringe. So awkwardly bad as @jasonderulo at @ANN7tv (@DStv 405) #SATY2015 asks if South Africans can speak English: pic.twitter.com/hJtNcAdrli

The singer tried to defend himself on his Twitter page, arguing that it was just a figure of speech.
"Speaking English" remark I made, was directed to a specific table. It wasn't literal, just a figure of speech when someone isn't responding

However, South Africans were not having it as they took to Twitter on Sunday to let the singer know exactly how they feel, with the hashtag #ThingsBetterThanJasonDerulo. Let's just say, things got a little crazy after that...
