LISTEN: Crash Car Burn: Pay Back The Money
Updated | By MornéJK jk
Joburg band CrashCarBurn took to the studio to record a single that sums up their thoughts and feelings around the fact that President Jacob Zuma is not required to refund any of the R246 million of public money spent on his private mansion in Nkandla, KZN.
On Saturday, the band contacted renowned cartoonist Zapiro, who was more than willing to cooperate in having his cartoons used in the lyric video to 'Pay Back The Money', the title of the track.
Garth Barnes, lead singer of the band had the following to say: "We've never been a political band. We were the lucky generation that grew up in a South Africa that was full of hope and positivity.
He added that: "To remain silent about the way our leaders are conducting themselves is an insult to those who fought for our freedoms. We must hold our leaders accountable for their actions. It's not just about a house. It's about a gap between rich and poor that is not closing. It's about violent crime. It's about corruption. Lack of access to healthcare and education.
The band says the song is also about realising a dream to make this beautiful country everything we know it can be.
