Things might be a bit a little tense between South Africa and US President Donald Trump, especially after his comments about how “bad” things are here.

But that hasn’t stopped Americans from visiting (and even settling in) South Africa, with some fully embracing the kasi lifestyle.

One such American, who goes by the name Kahlis8 on Instagram, has been documenting his South African experience.

In a recent post, he shared his trip to a local spaza shop, where he ordered slap chips – or French fries, as Americans would say.

As he approached the spaza shop, he shared how convenient they were and greeted the worker with a mix of Zulu phrases and slang.

He asked to see the sweets on offer before showing him the menu. The man suggested a kota, but having tried one before, Kahlis8 opted for the freshly made chips covered in ketchup.

He described his experience saying, "Buying Chips (French Fries) From A Spaza Shop In Da Kasi Is A Really Dope Experience!!!! You can get candy for R1 (one rand/one dollar), kota, Stoney cold drinks (soda), and chips with chip sauce or sweet chilli. Always remember to greet people in one of the 12 official languages when visiting their country. I practice talking to people every day in Zulu because it helps me learn more and embrace the beautiful culture in Mzansi."

It was nice to see his authentic experience and how he enjoyed it, but then again, we always knew it was dope...
