Arrive Alive continues to encourage safe driving

With more than 500 deaths experienced around the country, we have to remain vigilant on the roads.

The harsh reality of the many deaths that have been experienced since the beginning of December 2024 on our roads is heartbreaking, to say the least.

"Transport Minister Barbara Creecy released a mid-season safety report on Friday, 20 December, which noted 439 fatal car crashes and 512 deaths have occurred on SA’s roads since 1 December. The report revealed that Gauteng had 96 fatalities from 90 crashes." (East Coast Radio)

Despite all the road safety updates and measures taken by the Department of Transport, insurance companies, and other authorities, the number of road accidents and fatalities is still a cause for concern.

Anything can happen on the roads when you are speeding or negligent, you are under the influence, your vehicle is not road-worthy and poses a threat, or you come across a reckless driver. Besides fatal tragedies, some are left traumatised.

You can do your part by following the rules of the road. Watch this video, shared by the Arrive Alive page on Instagram in early December 2024. Here, we see a motorist using his hand and a windshield wiper to clear his windscreen in the rain.

Far too often people don't pay attention to the roadworthiness of their vehicles and put themselves and others in danger by driving on public roads. Add bad weather to the mix and things can escalate.

It's important to note that it isn't just the road safety of drivers but also criminals who target drivers that create an unsafe road environment.

Stay safe out there.
