A cyclist who frequents a route in Gordon's Bay, Cape Town was stabbed during an early morning attack. He rode his own bike to a nearby hospital.
A man identified as Shaun Wayne was admitted to a Strand, Cape Town hospital for emergency surgery after he was stabbed in the head.
The incident occurred on Monday, 19 November while Wayne was travelling to work on his bike. Shocking images of Wayne's injury have been making the rounds on social media.

Wayne was cycling along a route between Gordon's Bay and Strand and was less than two kilometers away from work when he was attacked. Remarkably, he was able to cycle himself to the hospital.
The incident has shaken the Cape Town cycling community, who, unfortunately, are no strangers to brutal attacks. Former world champion cyclist Wimpie van der Merwe says the area has a "huge problem" and related his own story of how he and professional South African cyclist Elize Jansen van Rensburg were pulled from their bikes and robbed. Van der Merwe says he and the cycling community are ready to fight back against criminals who seek to take the joy of cycling away from the community.
Wayne is reportedly recovering after the surgery; there have been no reports of permanent damage caused by the weapon used in the attack.
Police in the area claim that they are vigilant about monitoring the hotspots for cyclist attacks.
