"My dog ate my... lottery ticket!"

We have heard about kids who have claimed that their dogs have eaten their homework, but this is a new one.
A couple from the US have claimed that their dog ate their lottery ticket.
Rachel and Nathan Lamet from Salem, Oregon, admitted that they needed to invest more in chewy toys for their pups, Apple and Jack.
After purchasing a $3 (R51.00) Pharoah’s Gold Crossword ticket, which can win a top prize of $25,000, they made the mistake of leaving it in clear sight of their dogs.
They awoke the next morning to find the ticket in shreds. The couple found it funny, and Nathan even laughed saying that for sure the ticket was a winner.
Call it Murphy's Law or whatever, but it indeed was a winning ticket.
They shared the story with Oregon Lottery and get this, they accepted the story and even helped them piece the ticket together.
The ticket was in fact a winner, but not for a whopping $25,000, but for a mere $8.
Nevertheless, it was still a winner. Can you imagine if it was completely ruined?!
This prompted Oregon Lottery to issue out a notice advising players to keep their tickets away from their furry friends, so as to avoid situations such as these from happening in the future.
We have to admit, we are bit surprised that they accepted the "My dog ate my lottery ticket" excuse.
Especially considering it did not fly well with any teacher we knew...
Oh well, different time, different case.
