Frogs are considered a delicacy in parts of Asia and France, but like anything different in life, sometimes it takes time to adjust to it.

As the saying goes, what you don't know won't hurt you. Eating it without seeing how it is prepared is the better option.

So, imagine visiting Thailand and seeing spicy frog salads waiting to be prepared on the street. It can be a culture shock if anything - the rule about food when travelling is that you should always try everything at least once.

If you don't want to try it from a street vendor, the good news is that frog dishes are also available at restaurants and food courts.

A video of a street vendor preparing a spicy frog salad got us wondering about the delicacy. We cannot discriminate a delicacy because, as we all know, many South African dishes still leave us wide-eyed and on the fence.

The history behind frogs is reasonably practical. It started in the North of Thailand when families found having meat on their tables costly and looked for an alternative. Frogs were abundant in the rice fields and the wild, so they became a staple.

Not only are they a good source of protein, but they are also low in fat.
