Did you know that watermelons can explode?

Apparently, if a watermelon is slightly damaged, it can explode, especially during Summer.

Almost everyone can say that they look forward to Summer because of the juicy, mouth-watering fruits, and the one fruit that always makes everyone feel like a kid is watermelon.

In saying that, we think sharing some important information about these juicy fruits with you is vital.

A woman shared a video on social media about hearing an explosion of water in her kitchen. When she went to investigate, she saw something unusual.

She thought something had happened with the dishwasher, but it wasn't that at all...

As it turns out, it was a watermelon she had lying on her kitchen counter.

We were just as shocked as she was to find out that watermelons can explode, but it seems there is some science to it.

"If a watermelon is slightly damaged, microorganisms can enter and start the fermentation process, especially during extreme summer heat. Fermentation then creates gas that builds up inside the fruit and generates pressure, similar to winemaking and brewing beer. When the pressure gets too high, the watermelon may explode." (Statesman)
