Seasoned travellers might advise newbies to eat food they know and recognise when travelling abroad.

Sometimes, when you are not a foodie, things might come to your table and surprise you. The worst thing is when you are surprised with something that may not be appetising and you are hungry.

A South African travelling through Paris, France, got this unpleasant surprise.

Cameron Jansen shared how, during his travels, he always tries to order food that he knows so as not to be surprised. But it seems his version of steak and chips has evolved.

Many chefs have transformed traditional dishes into modern interpretations of that dish; it becomes a metaphor for the chef but not so much for the person ordering it without that knowledge.

It seems this is what happened to Cameron when he trusted the menu's 'Steak and Chips'.

Cameron received Steak Tartare with chips and a salad.
