Driver gets himself in a bind by parking in EV charging spot

We doubt this is only in South Africa, but watching someone get stuck after parking in the wrong place was entertaining.

Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are increasingly popping up in prime locations such as malls, hotel parking lots, airports, and other public spaces, catering to drivers who rely on these stations for their cars.

However, their prime positioning has caused some frustration among non-EV drivers, who feel sidelined by what seems like preferential treatment.

It’s almost like a "favourite child" syndrome, where EV drivers are treated like VIPs, leaving other drivers feeling overlooked.

A perfect example of this dynamic played out when a Volkswagen driver decided to park in an EV charging bay spot at what appeared to be a mall parking lot.

Sam from The Car Scene captured the moment when the Volkswagen driver, unaware of the charging bay's purpose, found himself parked in. The driver attempted an impressive 40-point turn to get out of the parking bay.

It was a firm warning to all other drivers about the importance of respecting designated parking spaces and being mindful of others.

One person said that this was the Mall of Africa parking lot, and there were so many parking bays that they couldn't understand why he parked there, of all places.

Meanwhile, a petrol car driver added some fuel to the fire, expressing his frustration with a cheeky remark: "EV drivers are not paraplegic. They do not deserve special reserved parking next to the door. If there is no parking available for my gas gubler, I park in that spot."

Clearly, the rivalry between these two groups of drivers is alive and well…
