At first, the drop-top Toyota Hilux in the video looks like it just had a haircut...

A viral video making waves in South Africa shows an unexpected sight: a man driving a completely modified Toyota Hilux.

The confusion on his face is evident as the kids filming express their awe at his drop-top Hilux. It’s no wonder they were amazed – this bizarre-looking bakkie certainly doesn’t resemble anything you'd normally see on the roads. With the roof completely gone, there was even a moment when it appeared there was no driver at all.

We’re all for convertibles, but this one looks like it popped into the barber shop for a trim and ended up leaving completely headless!

The term "decapitated Toyota Hilux" seems spot on. However, it appears this modification was all about staying cool in the heat. The vehicle bears a resemblance to those game drive bakkies, or perhaps the man is a farmer looking to stay cool while working.

As expected, Mzansi had plenty to say in the comments, and with over 6.4 million views, the reactions were as entertaining as ever. People got creative, coming up with hilarious puns to name the bizarre ride.

Check out some of the funniest comments below.

  • "Toyota Croptop."

  • "Toyota HalfLux."

  • "Is it meant to be repurposed into those game-drive cars."

  • "I thought it was a Fortuner, how unfortunate."

  • "Does Toyota know about this."

  • "It’s giving they don’t call me die hard for nothing."

  • "Is the car to be continued? I’m lost."

  • "Yeah, no, my country is a lot of things but boring isn’t one of them."
