Smoking in public is not as acceptable as it used to be.
Over and above the health ramifications on the smokers themselves, it has been said that second-hand smoke is much worse. Therefore smoking in designated smoking areas has become more and more prevalent.
With everything else that has been prioritised over the last few years, smoking did sort of take a back burner.
In France, it has been recorded that 75,000 deaths a year are tobacco-related.
It is for this reason that France "is set to implement a comprehensive anti-tobacco plan, banning smoking on all beaches, in public parks, forests, and various public areas." (Instagram)
This is a measure that the government has taken to combat smoking. Their aim: "to create a tobacco-free generation by 2032.” (CNN)
The French are synonymously known for their ability to make smoking look fashionable.
We're not sure how well this is going to be received by the French, especially with the government's plan to increase the cigarette tariff as well.
