Family drama: Grandad leaves 'niks' for his grandkids
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Karma comes back to haunt granddaughters who didn't take the time to visit their sickly grandfather. It's like the saying goes, you reap what you sow!
After a grandfather chose to leave $50 (R934) to his granddaughters in his inheritance, things took a turn for the worse.
After passing away, Frederick Ward Snr caused a feud amongst his family.
Mr Ward left almost all of his £500,000 (R11.9-million) fortune, including a flat worth £450,000 (R10.7-million) to two of his children after he passed away in 2020.
"He had discounted his dead son Fred Jr’s five daughters, and told his lawyers he was upset they hadn’t visited him after he’d been hospitalised three times with a lung condition." (Metro)
The granddaughters didn't leave things there, instead, they contested his disinheritance and took the case to court.
We think they had some sort of nerve doing this, considering they didn't even make time to see the man when he was ill.
"High Court judge Master James Brightwell has now ruled the 2018 will was ‘entirely rational, adding that the grandchildren had ‘very limited contact’ with their ‘disappointed’ grandfather." (Metro)
The Master acknowledged how upsetting this must have been for the disinherited kids but also thought it important to uphold the will of the late Mr Ward.
We cannot blame the granddaughters entirely though, it seems that their father passed on before their grandfather and this caused a distance between the families.
The granddaughters were not aware how often their grandfather would get ill and therefore did not visit him regularly.
It just goes to show that with family, money never mixes...
