Renewing your car licence disc is no longer a hassle. In the past, South African vehicle owners spent hours queuing at Post Offices or licencing centres. Today, a range of services are available, prioritising convenience and saving time.

Beyond the government’s National Traffic Information System (Natis), one of the most affordable options for renewing car licences is through FNB.

FNB was among the first large institutions to launch online licence disc renewals through its mobile app.

In March 2024, FNB launched a promotional renewal disc fee of R69, R30 less than the usual R99. Initially set for four months, this offer has been extended until the end of  March 2025.

According to My Broadband, "Vehicle licence disc renewals can be done up to two months before expiration. Therefore, any FNB customer whose licence disc expires before 30 May can still benefit from the reduced fee."

It's important to understand that the R69 fee excludes the R72 Road Traffic Management Corporation charge. This charge applies to all renewals and is calculated based on the vehicle’s weight and the province of registration.

Many people are willing to pay an additional fee for convenience, especially when it means avoiding long queues. The added bonus of door-to-door delivery makes it even more appealing.

Plus, with the option to renew up to two months before the expiration date, vehicle owners can plan ahead and complete the process online at their convenience.
