JHB motorist witnesses a petrol spillage on the M12
This is both wild to watch and scary to drive through...
It's not unusual for motorists to experience the unthinkable on the roads of South Africa. Most significantly, the busy streets of Johannesburg.
Sometimes, motorists witness an accident or a breakdown that causes traffic to build up; this time, a motorist shared their experience watching a petrol spillage on the M12.
A video shared on TikTok in early August shows a motorist's view of a petrol tanker that had lost one of its two trailers. The trailer tank was on its side, and petrol was spilling from it abundantly.

It was a shame to see so much petrol flowing away just as we experienced a relief in the petrol price...
We are unaware of the procedure that truck drivers must follow when something like this happens, but we hope this driver knew what he was doing.
A fuel spillage is not only a safety hazard and dangerous for everyone around it, but also has environmental effects.
The aftermath could include water contamination, health risks from inhalation, sewer system contamination, soil contamination, and fire and explosion risk.
After all, moving while your trailer is oozing petrol isn't the best safety protocol.
Nevertheless, the motorist who was videoing the incident and other cars on the M12 continued past the truck safely.
