JHB woman appeals to community for help after car break in
Updated | By Jacaranda FM/Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
A woman leaves her bag inside her car at a petrol station on Malibongwe Drive and thieves break into her car.
It always surprises us how people are shocked by the efficacy of thieves.
Thieves are always on high alert, observing everything and alway at their sharpest. If there's one thing we can learn from them, they can stay on point and alert.
A few months ago, statistics revealed that Gauteng experienced more than 50% of stolen vehicles in South Africa during the second quarter of 2024.
A woman from Johannesburg was irate when she found out that thieves had illegally entered her vehicle and stolen her belongings while she was inside the petrol station. The security footage shows her parking her car at the Engen Garage on Malibongwe Drive in Randburg, Johannesburg.
After she parked her car, she walked away, and a few seconds later, we saw a person leave another vehicle parked nearby and forcefully break into her car.
As she watched the CCTV footage from the garage, she sounded defeated and told the garage security that her qualifications were all in the stolen bag.
In the post, she shared that the incident occurred on 10 December at the Engen Garage, close to the Volkswagen dealership on Malibongwe Drive, and that she reported the case to the police but had yet to receive a case number.

As we proceed into the peak time of the year, which also hosts the rise in criminal activities, we suggest you follow these tips when parking your vehicle anywhere.
- Don't leave any valuables inside your vehicle.
- Ensure your car is manually locked to avoid remote jamming.
- Look around your car before locking and leaving it, as sometimes thieves crouch on the other side of your vehicle and open the door when you are not looking.
- Be vigilant when parking your car. If you notice someone suspicious, move away and follow your instincts.
- When returning to your car, glance inside to ensure no one is inside or around you.
