As South Africans, we take pride in celebrating brands that are local and lekker. These are brands that often hold a special place in our hearts, as so many of us grew up enjoying them.

BB bread, which is baked exclusively in KwaZulu-Natal and translates to Born 'n Bread in KZN, recently sparked a lively debate between a KZN woman and her friend from Johannesburg.

In a TikTok video, Mmule Setati, cookbook author, chef, and cooking show host, expressed her surprise at not knowing about the famous BB bread.

With her deep passion for food and recipe development, Setati is known for embracing new culinary experiences.

So it's no wonder she was taken aback to discover that BB bread is a top contender among South Africa’s most popular bread brands, especially since she had never heard of it, let alone tasted it.

If, like Setati, you’re unfamiliar with BB bread, here’s what you should know. Since 1851, BB Bakeries has been a beloved brand in KwaZulu-Natal, trusted by families from the North Coast to Van Reenen, and from the South Coast to the Drakensberg.

Exclusively baked for KZN, each BB Bakeries product is carefully packed and delivered to ensure the freshness, softness, and timeless taste that locals have come to cherish.
