Man sues esteemed casino for allowing him to lose millions!
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
And this was all after he banned himself from all casinos in Gauteng and nationally...
This just sounds so bizarre to us, but then again we have to realise that gambling can make people go crazy...
A Gauteng businessman has sued prominent hotel, leisure, and entertainment group Sun International for allowing him to lose millions at their establishment.
The key to his argument was that he banned himself (knowingly and willingly) and after losing more than a pretty penny, he believed that it was the casino's responsibility to ensure he did not breach his ban and gamble...
Come on, which world are you living in? Obviously not the real one...
Why would a business that makes its money on enticing people to spend their money stop you from gambling? You are grown person, that is your responsibility...
And get this, the money lost equated to R5.2-million and was his wife's.
"Essack submitted that he obtained free and unfettered access to the casino at Sun City despite his designation. Furthermore, he submitted that the casino permitted him to use his wife’s bank card despite knowing that he did not own it." (MSN)
Side note, we wonder if she was aware of his misguided use of her bank card? After all, its not small change we're talking about here...

The judgement passed down by Acting Judge Andy Bester was in favour of Sun International.
According to an article in MSN, Judge Bester said: “Sight should not be lost of the fact that the first plaintiff is the author of his own misfortune.”

“Having voluntarily placed himself on the list of people excluded from gambling, he nonetheless went to the Sun City Casino and, on his own version, lost a substantial amount of money.
“The plaintiff’s proposition implies that a compulsive gambler may retain his winnings when transgressing the regulations but hold the licensee of the gambling establishment liable for his losses."
Pff, in which world did he really believe that argument would win?!
