Only in SA: Man travels through JHB streets with modified wheelchair

This has got to be the most innovative way of moving around, although, we don't think these are roadworthy...

We have seen some crazy things on the streets of South Africa, like people using a taxi to load building sand and a smartly engineered BMW bakkie...

It might not be the first time we have seen unroadworthy vehicles on the streets of South Africa, but this time, we were amazed more than anything. As South Africans, we are prone to seeing unusual things on our streets; we have seen mime artists and choreographed dancers, people who write jokes on placards, and even some who collect trash for a tip.

So, you could say that we are not surprised by much.

However, a driver of a motorised modified wheelchair managed to surprise us.

In a video shared on TikTok, we saw a man riding his motorised wheelchair that seemed to have been adapted in speed. It also had what looked like the front of a motorbike welded on for efficient steering.

It is unknown whether the man was immobile and required a wheelchair, but what amazed us was the inspired innovation that was applied in creating this vehicle.

The man who videoed it admitted that this was the first time he had seen something like this and that too, on a fairly busy intersection in Johannesburg. What was also surprising was that he saw a traffic cop pass by without stopping this driver, who was obviously driving a vehicle that was not roadworthy.
