Mugging aftermath: "So, we can't even run in peace?!"
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Whether you are running during daylight or nightfall, you have to always be on the lookout...
Many people find exercise therapeutic; whether that means going to the gym, taking a walk or going for a run, releasing endorphins is said to make you feel good.
But that depends on a host of other supporting circumstances; at least, that was the case for a woman who was doing her morning run and was mugged.
A woman who goes by the name Linda Oliphant on TikTok shared how she was on her way back from the gym when she encountered a woman running on the road.
The woman running had her phone in hand and looked like she was shooting content. Oliphant shared that things happened very quickly after that, and she saw three men approach the runner and were in the process of robbing her.
She was surprised to see the taxi behind her go into the yellow lane and attempt to drive into these men to get them to stop the mugging. The taxi driver shocked them, and Oliphant said that two of them began running, but not before they stole the woman's belongings.
Thankfully, they did not hurt her, but she mentioned that one was picking at something on her head.
This made Oliphant question their safety in South Africa, saying that runners cannot even run peacefully. Crime is rife in South Africa, and we, as South Africans, must heed that and be proactive in our approach.
