Referee issues 'white card' in praise of medical staff of both football teams

A sign of praise in Portugal...
Competition is tough when it comes to sports. Most of the time players abide by fair play, as well as a sense of camaraderie.
But for the most part, it isn't expected. People love the drama of it all.
And we cannot say we blame them.
However, when your team can look beyond rivalry and beyond the sanctitude of fandom, that speaks volumes.
In a football game between Benfica and Sporting, we saw a video of the referee handing out a card.
But it wasn't a yellow card, nor was it a red card.
It was a white card and it was issued to the medical staff of both clubs.
The reason? The medical staff of both teams ran to the aid of a fan who had fainted in the stands.
And the referee presented them with a white card as a sign of praise.
"White cards are used in Portugal to praise acts of fair play." (Twitter) In turn, the referee was also celebrated as the crowd gave a standing ovation.
