SA comedian notices white woman with hair rollers on at mall

In South Africa, coloured women own the look of walking around in public with their rollers on but this tourist broke the status quo.
In South Africa, we have certain stereotypes that are ingrained in our culture. While many South Africans try to escape these stereotypes, accents, and cultural markers, choosing to live by their own values rather than conforming to society’s narrow expectations, some traits are simply too iconic to ignore.
One such trait is our unapologetic disregard for what others think of us.
This carefree attitude is often embodied by many coloured mothers, who have become famous for confidently strolling out of their homes with rollers in their hair, topped off with a doek or scarf.
South African comedian, actor, voice artist, MC, and presenter, John Koopman, couldn't help but highlight this stereotype when he spotted a woman at the mall rocking her rollers and doek while shopping for clothes.
Koopman boldly approached a woman he noticed at the mall, completely unbothered by her look.
To his surprise, when he spoke to her, he discovered that she wasn't South African at all, but from Holland. Yet, she was perfectly content walking around with her rollers while doing some shopping.
The young woman, named Lisa, explained that she had asked her neighbour – who happened to be a coloured aunty – to help her put the rollers in.
For Koopman, it was a culture shock, but he couldn't help but be impressed by Lisa's fearless confidence.
That’s the beauty of South Africa – its people have a way of growing on you and, it seems, they have a knack for boosting your confidence too.
