"The driver took off in the wrong direction; it was the wrong car with the correct registration number..."

There's this moment in certain circumstances when you feel you have taken your safety for granted.

This sometimes happens when you use a private taxi service and realise that things don't match up with the app and the driver isn't going in the correct direction.

When this happens, of course, your heart drops. But you'll need to stay calm and try to get out of the vehicle. Staying calm when you feel uneasy can be challenging, but mandatory, especially when you have a child with you.

A South African man recently shared that a good friend of his and her 10-year-old daughter hired an e-hailing taxi from Fourways Crossings to head home, and things got scary when the driver began driving in the wrong direction.

He said that when his friend knew something was off, she followed her instinct and asked the driver to stop because she would be ill. The driver offered to open a window for her and didn't stop the vehicle, which added to her suspicion that this might be an abduction

She insisted he stop, and he eventually did; she then got out of the car with her daughter in the middle of nowhere. Luckily, she called her friend and he was able to fetch them, but this could also have been unsafe and ended badly.
