Going on holiday to Bali sounds like a dream to anyone. But sometimes going on holiday teaches you a thing or two about how to avoid being taken for a ride by the locals.

And in case you didn't know, stick around, we hope you catch on by the end of this article.

A video on TikTok shows a man being massaged on a beach. Doesn't sound weird at all, because it is Bali and it looks like he is on holiday.
But then we read the overlay text and realise that he fell for local masseuses' hustle and became the victim of paying for more than he bargained.
The funny part of it all actually has to do with the value he claimed he was swindled out of...

He claimed that he was offered a massage on the beach by one masseuse for $100k, after saying yes, he had two other masseuses also massaging him.
With all of them demanding $100k each...
Talk about local hustlers standing their ground. For obvious reasons, everyone was left in shock because $100k per person for a collective massage, that's just ridiculous!
But things were ironed out in the comments, when people realised what he meant.

It seemed that it was in fact not dollars that he was referring to but rupiah, which is the currency in Bali.
If you work it out as of today the exchange rate is 100,000 rupiah equates to $6.70. Which is roughly over a R100.
Doesn't sound so bad now that we unveiled the price. But here is the piece of golden advice when traveling: Make sure to be the key negotiator and make sure to confirm the terms of your agreement, because locals can get super technical.
And before travelling to your chosen holiday destination, make sure to read reviews about the locals.
Also search rates for things that you are interested in so that you know if you are going to be hustled.
