We know people who won't sleep in a room with a common house gecko. Can you imagine what they might do if they saw a water monitor lizard?

It comes as no surprise to us that a country such as tropical Thailand doesn't just offer a fantastic beach life but also has the largest population of water monitor lizards

"These huge reptiles, which can easily reach 2.5m (8 ft) in length and weigh 50+ kg (110+ lbs), can be found inhabiting lakes, rivers, swamps and mangroves across the country." (Iamkohchang)

Asian water monitor lizards are carnivores and use their forked tongue to detect what sort of prey is in the area.

In this way, they are very similar to snakes. They eat small creatures such as birds, snakes, rodents, and fish, and can stay underwater for half an hour.

"Asian water monitors don’t attack people but can cause accidents.  A few cyclists collided with them as they crossed the road in the park. Or veering off the paths when confronted by one crawling out of the undergrowth nearby. Not surprisingly, the largest were over 2.5 metres (8 feet) in length."  (Iamkohchang)

Watch as this water monitor lizard got its wires crossed, entered a grocery store, and even climbed up the shelf.
