VIDEO: The curious case of the travelling trolley

Are you the type of shopper that makes sure your trolley is safely secured, or do you leave it rolling wherever it pleases?

We're pretty sure you've gone shopping and found a trolley abandoned in a parking bay or somewhere it definitely shouldn't be?

In South Africa, trolleys often serve a multi-purposeful role. While some use them for shopping, others use them to cart around their belongings. Because trolleys are incredibly versatile, they often end up in the most unexpected places.

They're also so popular that Checkers even sold mini versions for R900 a pop!

Most of the time, trolleys end up in odd spots because people don't take the time to properly return them.

This is where trolley collectors come in – a job that might not be common elsewhere, but is certainly necessary here.

A Johannesburg man recently reminded us of the potential damage caused by trolleys when they're left in the wrong place – and also highlighted how easily we can lose focus while chasing content.

He confessed that, instead of getting out of his car and stopping a runaway trolley, he chose to film it. We get it – sometimes, it's hard to choose between taking action or capturing the moment.

The video has racked up 370,000 views, though it's unclear if his act of kindness would have had the same reach in real-time.

Maybe it would’ve been more impactful if someone else had filmed him actually stopping the trolley.

Although it provided some entertaining content, we can’t help but wonder whether that trolley ended up causing damage to a car or, worse, a person.
