It's never a pleasant surprise to discover that the tradesperson you've hired is a bit out of touch with the basics of common sense. You might say their approach to safety and efficiency is glaringly absent from their work ethic.

And, of course, the real kicker is realising this only after you've hired them to do the job.

We recently came across a video that proves not everyone is blessed with common sense.

A man is painting the front of an apartment building, giving the brickwork a fresh coat in a bright new colour.

While the colour choice gives the building a vibrant lift, things soon take an unexpected turn.

He precariously positions the ladder, almost daring fate. For a moment, it feels as though we are watching a circus act, waiting to see what might go wrong.

People were clearly shocked by his lack of common sense. Have a look at some of the comments.

  • "How on earth has he made it to his 50s."

  • "I am simultaneously impressed and depressed. Impressed that he go as far as he did. Depressed that there are people walking among us who thought that would work."

  • "Common sense doesn't grow in everyone's garden."

When you hire a service provider, ensure they have a list of contactable references and are properly trained on safety protocols. If you're tackling the work yourself at home, take the time to research proper safety procedures before you start.
