Volkswagen's emergency assist if a driver passes out
Updated | By Jacaranda FM/Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
This could work wonders for long-distance drivers and sadly, drivers who get behind the wheel of a car under the influence.
This time of the year brings many accidents and deaths on the road. The festive season welcomes a lot of recklessness on our roads, which leads to injuries, car damage, and worse, casualties.
Gauteng is known for its high levels of drunk drivers throughout the year, and as much as we might hope for that to change at this ime of the year, we highly doubt that will miraculously happen.
Even with avid Arrive Alive campaigns, designated driver programmes, private taxi services and more, people still get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol.
While driving drunk is one thing, accidents also happen when tired drivers try to push their limits.
A fascinating invention by Volkswagen seems like the perfect solution to combat both tired drivers and those who dare get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol.
The video shared on X shows us what happens when a driver falls asleep while driving.
If the driver falls asleep, the car issues a warning alert and applies the brakes to wake them up. If the driver fails to wake up and take control, the Emergency Assist kicks in, automatically moving the car into the emergency lane.
To report impaired driving and road conditions, you can call 0861 400 800.
