Watch as two Americans misinterpret the word babalas

This is a classic example of misinterpretation where the meanings are worlds apart.

There's something fascinating about the different ways food is interpreted around the world, not to mention the unique ways we refer to foods in South Africa compared to other countries.

Two Americans recently reminded us that there's always room for interpretation and that not everything has to be seen the same way. This happened when they went to buy biltong.

In the video, Brashaad Mayweather, the American who posted the content, kicks things off by calling it "bubble a**" instead of the actual word – babalas.

The guys are confident they know the meaning of the word, but the server and two South African ladies behind them can’t help but giggle as they misinterpret a common phrase known across South Africa.

They mistakenly think that babalas refers to a lady with a round bottom, but the server tries to correct them, explaining that it actually means hungover.

It was interesting to watch their reaction when they learnt the true meaning, as they didn’t seem entirely convinced. The mix-up occurred because the biltong flavour at the store was named 'Babalas'.
