5 Small ways to go green this year
Updated | By Kriya Gangiah
As today marks Earth Day 2017 here are a few tips to be a little more earth friendly.
Today is a day we celebrate Mother Nature and find ways to improve the world around us. Although going green might be tough for some, every small effort can help. Here are a few simple tips that help you make a difference.
1. Shop with Reusable Bags
Plastic is a big factor effecting the environment. Doing something as simple as using reusable grocery bags can prevent a build up of plastic waste and save you money.
2. Use energy-efficient light bulbs
They tend to cost more upfront than less efficient models. But they'll save you money in the long run because they eat up less electricity when being used.
3. Plant a tree
By planting a tree, you can provide more shade for your house and reduce air-conditioning costs, as well as clean the air and water.
4. Use as little water as possible to wash your dishes
Try to assess how much water you’re currently using and see if there’s any way to cut back. If you wash by filling up the sink or wash bins, figure out how much water they hold and how many times per day you wash. Or, if you just wash under the running taps, keep in mind that the longer you have it running the more water you are wasting.
5. Turn off
This one is so simple you should be doing it already. Make sure you turn off any lights or appliances when not in use. If you leave a room make sure that you flick the switch behind you as well.
