Do you love books and social media? This Maldives job has it all
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
A Maldives resort is looking for someone to run their bookstore - and you get free accommodation at a villa.
When we first heard about this job, it sounded too good to be true.
But now that there is another job opening two years later, we can confirm that this was legit and having your CV on speed dial is always beneficial.
The pop-up bookshop in the Soneva Fushi resort in the Maldives shared a job opening for a barefoot bookseller.
If you love to read and enjoy using social media, then this could have been your dream job.
"According to TimeOut, the job pays $750 a month, but the bookseller will live in a villa for free that usually costs $36,500 a night." The salary equates to R12,155 a month and the villa must be fancy considering vacationers pay over half a million rand a night.
"To be considered, the job application says "excellent written & verbal English skills" are required. Interested people should have previous experience with bookselling or publishing, love reading, and know a lot about classical and modern literature." (Business Insider)
And just as we get excited, we see that the Barefoot Booksellers posted the below on their page.
The original due date for applications was supposed to be the 13th of August 2022, but because of the overwhelming response, they closed applications early.
Ultimately, it was too good to be true...
But don't be disheartened, this job contract is only for a year, so you could still get it next time round.
