Two weeks into the New Year, and while the festive high still lingers, reality hits hard with the much-anticipated return to school

It's a harsh reminder that the holidays don't last forever – and perhaps that's a good thing!

To make the transition a little easier, we came across a video packed with helpful kitchen hacks to help streamline your parental duties when preparing lunch or snacks for the kids.

1. An easy baked potato

By simply wrapping a potato in a wet paper towel and microwaving it for five minutes, you can enjoy a perfectly baked potato – great as a quick snack or a tasty addition to any meal.

Just be sure to use tongs to remove it from the microwave, as it will be piping hot.

2. Egg separator

If you smear garlic onto your finger, you can easily pick up the yolk of the egg and separate the yolk from the egg white. This cool hack will definitely wow the kids.

3. Ripen your mangoes

If you're impatient for your mangoes to ripen, then put them into a brown bag and keep them in a warm room. Alternatively, if you want your mangoes to stop ripening, pop them into the fridge.

4. Corn on the cob

If you want to skip boiling corn for hours, simply rinse it, add salt, wrap it in a paper towel, and wet it under running water. Microwave for five minutes, or use the pre-function function if your microwave has one. Remove with tongs, add butter, and enjoy.

5. Easy bite-sized meatballs

For perfectly uniform meatballs or kebabs, press the meat mixture into an ice cube tray. Freeze until solid, then pop them out and store them in a resealable plastic bag. They’re ready to cook whenever you need them.
