It’s easy to get caught thinking you’re living a normal life, when in reality, you’re just in survival mode.

Sarah Robb, a mindset coach and speaker, highlights signs that might seem "normal" but actually indicate you’re operating in survival mode.

Some common indicators include struggling to relax because of guilt, being unable to set healthy boundaries, and over-apologising.

Be mindful of these signs, as they could be paving the way toward a mental health breakdown.

1. Overexplaining yourself
If you find yourself constantly justifying your actions or feelings, this behaviour often stems from feeling unheard and has built up over time.

2. The infamous female guilt
Feeling uneasy or guilty when trying to relax? "Even when you’re off the clock, your mind races. You can’t truly unwind because you’ve been conditioned to think that rest equals laziness," says Robb.

3. Over-apologising
If you find yourself saying "sorry" in almost every situation, even when things aren't your fault, it’s a sign you’ve developed a reflex to apologise, even when it’s not necessary.

4. Putting others first
You constantly prioritise others' needs over your own because it’s easier than confronting your own struggles.

5. Pushing through exhaustion
Even when you're running on empty, you push through, thinking rest is a luxury you can't afford.

6. Struggling to set boundaries
Saying no feels almost impossible because you've been conditioned to please others, often at the expense of your own well-being.

Change isn’t easy, but the first step is recognising that you’re stuck.

If these signs feel familiar, it might be time to reach out to a mental health professional for support.
