Anti-cheating hats used by Philippine learners during exams

Can you imagine something like this being implemented in South African schools?

The thought of your kids heading into exams can feel a bit overwhelming, especially as everyone’s still finding their rhythm after the holidays. And let’s be honest, school life can be just as exhausting for parents as it is for learners.
But we came across something online that caught our attention, and it might interest you too.
Cheating is usually seen as a purely negative act. But in the Philippines, some schools have taken a fresh approach. They've flipped the script and found a way to shift how students (and the wider community) think about cheating altogether.
While South Africa just wrapped up the 2024 matric exams, there were multiple reports of students being caught cheating.
In response, the Department of Education stepped up security in exam rooms and launched awareness drives to highlight how cheating can harm students’ records – and their futures.
It turns out, schools in the Philippines may have cracked the code on cheating – and stress.
Instead of relying on strict rules and tension-filled rooms, they’ve taken a creative and mindful approach.
To stop wandering eyes and ease exam nerves, some schools ask students to design their own “anti-cheating” hats.
According to My Modern Met, the only requirement is that the hats block the view of others' papers. Beyond that, students are free to get as fun, quirky, or creative as they like.
What started as a way to reduce pressure has become a classroom highlight. Students now pour their energy into making clever, colourful, and often hilarious hats, turning exam day into something to look forward to.

Social media users loved the students’ creativity. While some couldn’t stop laughing at the over-the-top designs, others questioned whether the hats were actually “cheat-proof”.
Can you imagine something like this being introduced in our own exam rooms?
