Are ambitious women off-putting?
Updated | By The Workzone with Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp
Ambition is often seen as an attractive attribute, but not for a lot of women, as ambitious women are often seen as ruthless and bossy.
It's Women's Month and conversations about women and where we are in the world are in the spotlight.
We came across an important interview highlighting a necessary charactaristic that's often attached to men.
Oprah Winfrey sat down with Reece Witherspoon to chat about something that she said years ago at a Glamour Magazine event that stuck with her.
Is 'ambition' a masculine term?
In the original video, Witherspoon highlighted issues that affect women all over the world. She talked about different industries not having enough female representatives in senior positions, and that if more women occupied those positions, we'd see a shift in the way women's issues are addressed.
In her speech, Witherspoon said 'ambition is not a dirty word' and that clip has been serving as an inspiration to millions of women all over the world since 2015.
In her interview with Witherspoon on Super Soul Sessions in February, Oprah spoke about a time when she had to defend being ambitious because it's seen as an appealing characteristic for men, but not for women.
Witherspoon also mentioned that there was a study conducted that says women often hide their ambition to appear more attractive.
