We love how people in New York 'disrupt' on a deeper level...

New Yorkers are known for their bold attitudes and unapologetic confidence in expressing their opinions, no matter what society says. This culture has made them memorable and certainly unlike anyone else.

In 2019, Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan's artwork, 'Comedian', was sold in New York for $6.2 million (R1.12 billion). Cryptocurrency entrepreneur Justin Sun bought it, sparking global conversation.

The artwork – quite literally a banana taped to a wall – became the centre of controversy and debate...

On its Instagram page, Subway Creatures shared a video of a person we believe is making a statement about the story above.

The person was seated on the train, wearing a black leotard with bananas taped all over it. Whether this was a statement in support of the artwork’s sale (which we highly doubt, given New York’s culture) or a mockery of it remains unclear.

New Yorkers are known for using humour and irony to challenge art forms with humour and irony, constantly pushing boundaries and questioning conventions.

Either way, this moment supports the New Yorker spirit – standing out and disrupting social norms, no matter where you are.
