Dad shares how his daughter brought him a mole

"I don't know, maybe it's a mouse... it's so cute."

There's not much a parent can do when a child has their mind set on something.

For instance, when they believe that what they are saying is the absolute truth, they are correct; it is their truth because that's all their life experience has taught them thus far. So, technically, they are not wrong.

But their overconfidence regarding the unknown always seems to knock us off our feet. This is a pro for kids, allowing them to walk into every situation without fear. You could say that as we grow, we learn about fear, and then it becomes a construct that controls us instead of the other way around.

One father saw his daughter's confidence at an all-time high when she found a mole in the grass at their complex and brought it home.

It seems he didn't share her enthusiasm for how cute the little creature was and escorted her back to the grassy area to set it free.

She thought it was a mouse and was adamant that it was 'cute'. But her father was not on the same wavelength as her.

Parenting a fearless child can be stressful.

"Between the ages of about one and five, your child develops new abilities and craves independence. This is healthy. Independence contributes to well-being and a sense of identity and helps promote self-esteem. In some ways, our young children are similar to teenagers. In both stages, our kids are in the process of ‘individuation’ – they are learning about difference, separation and self-assertion, and they have an unshakeable belief in their own invincibility." (Happy Families)

Perhaps the little girl bringing home the mole was cute, but we should also handle it with care as parents. We should use positive words when explaining why we shouldn't bring home wild animals.

As a parent, remember that this moment was exciting for the young girl. Don't let your fear dishearten her sense of adventure.
