Daddy tries to help toddler in the pool and gets told off

We might not be ready to let our little ones do things for themselves, but they are ready, willing and able.

It's not uncommon to encounter toddlers who want to do things themselves. It's a natural part of their growth and is something of a milestone.

But that doesn't mean that any parent is ever prepared to hear their toddler refusing help from them. It's natural to want to help your child through things. Sometimes, it comes from a place of fear, and other times, it's just us being protective.

Either way, it is a reality that can hit hard. This time, it hit funny as we watched a toddler refuse help from her dad.

The Play Sense website says that, while it may not always be practical to let toddlers do everything on their own, it is important to encourage them to handle some tasks independently.

"Every time they master something new, they build their sense of self-worth – seeing themselves as capable beings, which builds their confidence to try new things. And as we all know, before we can master something, we need to practice it, including trying and failing a few times.

"It’s essential to allow our children to learn experiences that are age appropriate¹. This means we consider their age and development in what we expect from them." (Play Sense)

In a video that a mother shared on TikTok, we see a father trying to guide his daughter along the inside wall of a pool, but she's not having it. Instead, she's adamant that she can do it herself, or in her words, "own self".

Mom Terry-Leigh Oliver shared, "Can someone please tell this girl that she is not even two and her parents still want to help her? Geez."

Her dad sounded a bit crushed when his baby girl refused his helping hand. This little girl is the epitome of independence, not to mention spunk and spice.
